Default Tires

I have a 500i and would like to know how big of a tire i could go without having to do any mods to the suspention. I am trying to get an idea of what my possibilities are. I also plow and have about 3 inches of clearance when turned all the way. So that would be the other concern. Thanks for the info ya-all.

I'm sure that the 27x10 will fit in front and 27x12 in rear.

I seriously think that you could even put 28's on a 500i. They have a ton of room underneath. 27's fit easy on my old 99 ACT suspension 500, and I might even have been able to go 28 under it without any mods.

Yes, Andy, I think you're right. 27 and 28's will probably fit. BUT...without a lift or spring spacers...You may have tire rubbing issues. The 500i may be high enough, but I know on my ACT, without a lift, I would rub a little when riding hard.

Personally, I think 27" tires are plenty-0-Tire!! If you want more clearance then lift it!!

Yeah, I won't go any higher than 27". I think that the diameter has just as much to do with eating away power as the weight issue myself. 27's are pretty damn big to begin with.

Alright guys,

Without starting a war on the best tire, what would be the best 27" tire for muddy ditches and a ton of snowplowing, as long as it snows. Also I am new at this does 27" mean the farthes point of the tread or is it the base of the tire. The reason I ask is I have 3" of clearance with my plow now, If I increase frow a 25" to a 27" does that mean I only gain two inches or is actually more with the type of tread design. This seams like a stupid question, but thats alright its not the first time that has heppened

I can't help with the first part of the question, but the second part I can. The 27" is the diameter of the tire or as most people call it "how tall". So if you currently have a 25" tire and 3" clearance between the plow and tire, then upgrade to a 27" tall tire, you will have about 2" clearance between the plow and tire. Another way of saying this is that for every inch taller your tire is you gain 1/2" in radius and thus 1/2" in clearance between the bottom of the ATV to the ground, or in the case of the clearance between the tire and the plow you would lose 1/2" clearance.

You also alluded to the fact that differences in tread designs, sidewall designs, tire brands and even tire pressure can all effect the actual change in clearance. I don't think I would want to go taller than 27" for your situation. Good luck in your choice.

Racnooc, are the Dirt Devils an ITP tire? I can not find them on their site.

If not can you provide me with a web site.

Thanks in advance.
