Default Tires

Questions? I have a Y2K 500 Auto & 300. First question I would like to put 27'' bi/tri claws on the 500, Im going to use the stock rims, Do I need to use any kind of lift? And we have a moose 60'' plow for the snow will this hit the tires when turning.

Next , On the 300 I want to go to a more aggressive tire, What is the best tire sizes to go on the stock rims that will not conflict with the machine.

If any one has any suggestions I would love to hear them!!

Thanks Sly

Hey Sly, I run the claws and I would recommend a lift. They will fit without, but to prevent your tires from rubbing or bottoming out during aggressive trail riding I would install the lift. Occasionally, even with the lift my tires will rub the fenders slightly when hitting big bumps. Not a big deal, but the lift will help and also give you more ground clearance. Definately worth the money in my book!!

As far as plowing goes, if you turn your blade all the way left/right and turn your tires, they will hit the plow and damage one or the other!!! Not good.... If you keep your plow straight or only turn to the first notch you'll be ok. I bought my claws mounted and I switch back to the Titans if I need to, but as long as you are aware of the clearance between plow and rubber you'll be fine.

A buddy of mine has a 300 and runs 26" Vamps...no problemo!! A little power loss, but the gain in traction out ways the loss!! Good Luck!!!!

Do you have a URL for a web site on those 26" Vamps?

I am new, and don't know who makes Vamps.

You should get a (high lifter) not a lift kit a high lifter just gives you that little bit of clearance you need. there about 74.00 armerican also don,t get bi claws get 589 itp they a way better tire

i would go with the bi tri combo on your 500. i have 26" 589's on mine and i would trade them for the claws in a second. i put spring spacers on my 500 to give it a littel lift but my 26's still rub once in awhile over a hard bump. as far as the 300 goes i have 26" outlaws on it. they are really only good for the mud but i like them. they did rob some power though. my high 5th is worthless i cant use it. but it has no problem spinning the outlaws in low 1st. so if you wanted are really good tire for the mud then the laws or vamps would be the best bet. if you want a better ride and tire that is a little more verstiale i would suggest the GBC gators or mybe the mud lites. either way about anything is better than stock

Thanks Fango.

As I keep reading and learning more about ATVs, and ATVing I see that mud tires are not the right tire for me (I didn't even know the Vamps were mud tires )

I need an all around tire. Just about the only thing I don't ride in is mud, and snow. Most of my riding is on hard pack, rocks. I have a couple of stream crossings, and when it rains I do some "mud" riding.

I am still not sure what I should get, or what will fit my 01 AC 300 4X4. I would like a slightly taller tire for better ground clearance (I have a moose lift kit on its way), and I want to fit it on my stock wheels.

Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

There are a ton of good tires on the market...Pick a good search engine and do a search for "ATV TIRES" and surf away. You will find a lot of very helpful info here and else where on the net. When you finally decide be sure to post and let us know what you buy...

Rotary, i would suggest Dirt Devils, ITP all terrain radials, or Bearclaws. as for the size i would go up one size. so 25X9X12 in the front and 26X12X12 in the back. my 26X12X12 outlaws do not even come close to rubbing on my 300 so i am sure with the lift you will have no problems.

We have 26x10 rear and 25x8 front Gators on our 250 4x4 and it works great. The Gator is a light tire and has excellent traction. The best part about it is that when you air them down you will get a much smoother ride than any other tire that I have ran. I had the 27" Vamps, 589 MS and 27" Gators on 500 Cats. The Gators are the better tire out of the 3 as far as ride and hard pack traction goes. The Vamps are a little better mudder than the other 2, I couldn't tell the difference in the 589s and Gators in the mud. The Gators do have some side biters that make it a little easier running in the ruts.
My vote would be for the Gators or Mudbugs (same tire) they perform great in all traction conditions and still give a nice smooth ride that has a little give in it.
