What do you guys think about using a 250 for lawn maintence such as seeding, aerating, fertilzing, detaching, and etc. I was thinking about doing this during the spring and summer. Making a little cash on the side. Do think it would tear up a lawn if I dropped in to low gear and just crawled along. I looking for feed back.

You might want to get lawn type tires.

If you want a machine for just lawn maintainance, try a Kawasaki Bayou 300 2x4. The Bayou has a unlockable rear gear case and it's the only machine that does. The Bayou is a bit outdated, but it's very reliable and inexpensive. Turf tires will help for the Arctic Cat, but it's still a locked rear axle which means every time you turn a corner one tire drags and can cause turf damage.

GrizzlyJim,

I haven't checked Kawasaki's web site but do they still make the Bayou 300 2x4.

I looked at that back in 1998, but went with Honda's fourtrax 300 4x4.

That would be a good quad for lawn work and I am surprised more ATV manufactures haven't used this feature: unlockable rear gear case.

I just saw it listed in a magazine under new '03 Kawasakis for $3999. It does seem like a pretty simple feature, no different from front lockable gear cases, but I won't think there is a very big demand for it.

I have tried to use my 300 AC as you mentioned and there are severval problems besides the lack of a rear dif. The main problem is that anytime you try to look behind you to see what you are doing with your impement you automaticallt turn the veh. witch you would not do with a sterring wheel . Also you can easily wear out your auto clutch as it may be slipping to go the speed that you need. I had this happen to a friend with a Biyou. Its just real hard to beat a good heavy garden tractor for slow work and save the ATV for the faster stuff.
