Does anyone know if you can modify a 2003 400 to a "locking front end"?

No it can not be modified like the 01 and earlier 250 and 300. I do believ Dirty Howie has come out with a full time locker for the later model Cats. That is your only choice except to weld it your self. I wouldn't recomend either of these methods.

Niteowl made one a few years ago for a 2000 model I think, but it was locked full time all the time. I couldn't deal with that myself. Not for a day even.

I have the same machine and I can tell you that the front is definately "open". Dirty Howie can take and modify the front diff to be full-time locked. It requires machining but he says it can be undone in the future. You must take the diff out and send the entire unit to him. Howie

Well I know that the front end does lock up but only when one front wheel slips. After you take it out of 4x4 and put it back in to 4x4 it goes to a limited slip again and waits for one wheel to slip. I know this from a recent snow ride.
