Default How does it compare?

I would like to know how the AC 500 compares to all the big bores out there. Right now I like the AC 500 and the Grizz. The reason I like the AC 500 is because it is very reliable and after seeing the one High Lifter has, (and it has17 inches of GC) I was just like WOW! But then I look at the Grizz and start thinking how nice it would be to have a little more power and be able to lock the front diff.

So if anyone would reply on how there AC500 compares to big bores. And how much of a difference it is? or if there is a difference. Im not trying to start a flame war or anything. Just would like to know how they compare in most areas.

In thick brush?
On the trail?
In the mud?
Gas milage?
Reliability?
Handling?
Comfort?
Power?
Work?
Play?
???
??
?

And I could really care less about top speed.

THANKS!

The Arctic Cat is slower than the big bores and there is no locker. The speedodomer is outdated. Other than that it is just as good or better in the catagories you listed. The best thing to do is ride both before buying.

I looked at both closely last summer. Some of the things I noted:

Grizz had more power, but the Cat wasn't a slug. It has enough power to keep you entertained.

Grizz has a locker. I've taken my Cat everywhere on my rough farm, including some steep hills, and have yet to need one. Personally, I think they're somewhat overrated, unless you ride in mud, which I don't. Nice to have, but if you don't have one, it won't stop you from crossing some very rough ground.

Cat suspension is terrific. Clears just about everything, rides very smooth. Cat does NOT use a sway bar on the rear, so you get full articulation on the rear wheels. Racks can carry a heavy load without bottoming out. Unlike a lot of IRS quads, the Cat's rear doesn't sag under a load.

Cat has very little electronics. Everything is manual, no electric shift/transfer case/etc... I like that, less to crap out. Speedo is plain, but so what? Wasn't high on my list of priorities.

Cat can be had with a manual trans, if you like that. (I do) Has a nice, easy to read gear indicator. Vinson is the only other big bore quad to offer a manual. Same engine and trans as the Cat.

Working ability: great, my 500i has become an invaluable farm tool. Excellent pulling power, but doesn't tear the ground up the way a tractor will.

From what I saw last summer, Kaw had the best engine, Cat had the best suspension, with Yamaha and Polaris falling somewhere inbetween.

Thanks for the reply guys. I think I will probaly will go with the Arctic cat. The locker is not that big of a deal. I was more wanting to know how they compare in power. I will put 27 or 28 inch tires and a lift kit on it. Being where I live, I need all the ground clearence I can get. I will also be putting on a exuast kit. And Some other perfomance stuff. So how do you guys think it will do with all these things.

THANKS!
