Default Locker and axle

Can anyone explain how I can get a fully locking diff. on my 2000 ,300 4x4? Also i had to order a new right rear axle ( busted CV boot that i neglected to fix). Has anyone ever had to replace a axle and if so how much did they charge?

thanks in advance for any info

The locker front dif. is real easy. If your 2000 is like my 2001 all you have to do is make your control rod to the front dif. just a little bit longer so that it can push the small lever comeing out of the dif. go forward about 1 in. farther to engage the lock. You can feel this when you take the control rod off of the lever to get an idea of what it will take. The trick is to get the bend in the contol rod just right so that it dosnt rub on anything. Some of the older 300s had a cable control the front dif. and if this is your case you will need to modify the cable or replace it with a rod. Good luck.

About your axle. I think they are about $250.00 plus labor? They are not hard to change out, much like a front wheel drive car and I have always wondered if one of the shops that rebuild C/V shafts for cars could rebuild ATV shafts? It would be much cheaper as they are obout $55.00 for most cars. Check out the Yellow pages and let us know how you make out.

Does this locking Diff. mod work with 2000 500's as well? Are there any other problems you have to watch out for once you do it? Do you still have the ability to select the 2x4 & Limited slip?

Unfortunately, the 500 class machine can not be locked this way.

I have not worked with a 500 yet but I understand that they have a dif. similar to a detroit locker and it should lock up on its own when needed.I dont know any of this to be fact so I stand to be correted on it. I do have a freind that has a 500 and I am sure he would let me cheak it out further, but it will be at least 3 mo. before I get time to as I am in the middle of building a new first class shop just to this sort of thing so look to hear more from the Volvoman in the future.
