I read some one else here last year with the same problem. Now my brake light is out in a similar situation. I changed the bulb and the running light works again. The foot brake turns on the light but the hand brake-- NO! Tomorrow I'll test for the wiring circuit. I suspect the hydraulic brake switch is going to be the culprit. I'll let you guys know...

you might remove your gas tank and check to see if the connector came loose , mine did this also . when i ran the switch wires for my winch some how i unhooked the conn.

Chucky ..no i didnt have to take the front plastic off..(TG)! just took off seat i think side panels, and then the tank. its kinda tight back in there so grab the brakelight switch wire on the handle bars and follow it down and you should be able to see if its unhooked or not ..
