catKrazy, I was looking over your sig, and was wondering what in the world are your "custom mud cooling guards are"

 

They are Mud Flaps off of a 18 wheeler cut to size and sape and mounted next to the radiator pn each side to keep the mud out!

hey guys, I just have a few more questions about welding the front diff, I was looking at it and took it to a local machine shop(i dont have a walder yet, no room for it) and he suggested that I weld the 2 gears that run on the center pit to the center pin and then fortify the weld on the center pin. I would like to hear how any others have done it.

I talked to Alpha sports and first, they said I could not get ANY internal parts for a 2002 500i, then they e-mailed my and said that I could order the parts for an 03 and they will work. WHY IN THE WORLD can't I order any internal parts for a 02 front or rear diff but I can order EVERY part on a 03 diff???????

If I can use a rear spool from an 03, I could lock it up for about $180 or so ( I dont remember the exact amount). Cheaper than Howies and VERY reversible. Has anyone tried this?

 

no none had tried the rear on the front

But listen you need to make one continuous weld on the side gears and spiders, Make them all conect. BE CAREFULL dont get slag in the spidle or worm gears!!! stuff a rag in there or something to keep slag out. if you get it in chipp it out with a small punch and then you will probly have to hammer in the axels is you dont get the slag all out!!!

Make the ring Gear be the gear that s-ins the axels not the side gears or spiders or clutches, DOnt worry about internal parts. YOU CANNOT OPEN THE INNER HOUSING!!!!

Thats why howies cost so much he can do it.

I would go for the howie locker first if I had the money!@!!! Its just better!!!!

 

Got her dont last night, WOW what a difference in the thick gooey mud...you and feel the thing pull from side to side looking for traction, and get it with a wheele off the ground and she still keeps going... Thanks for your help. Now for finishing the muffler snorkel...
