Default Answered: Is Dry Gas Pointless?

My buddy insists dry gas is no longer needed with modern gasoline. If that’s true, why would they still sell it in stores?

He maybe thinking gasoline with ethanol, which i think is basically what these additives are. I don't believe they are needed in that case. Ethanol free gas, i would think, could still benefit.

I don't understand the previous post but no doubt dry gas is still needed. It removes water, which can be a problem in ethanol blended gas.

your friend is right.
dry gas was more of a necessity when gasoline didn't have the additives they have in them now- and, mostly in older cars with untreated metal gas tanks- which were prone to condensation in colder climates- where water would settle to the bottom of the tanks.

not so much an issue with modern vehicles- most of which have insulated, treated tanks and modern gasoline that has hygroscopic (ethanol / methanol) additives added to it.

My apologies. I was trying to type it out quickly.

I Believe you have it reversed. The additives like dry gas only adds alcohol. Ethanol is a type of alcohol. Adding more wont really help. In gasoline sans-ethonal it does help but, I would only add during rapid temp changes and when it sits an extended period of time. long term use will do damage to fuel lines.
