I believe all atvs have a locking rear differential. Both rear tires are always spinning no matter what. The front is where you get the limited slip where one wheel spins faster than the other or sometimes not at all. Front differential lock makes both of them spin at the same time. This is generally used when you simply can't make it through an obstacle any other way, such as snow or mud. The downside to front differential lock is that it makes steering noticeably heavier. Eps equipped machines lessen this somewhat but it still is noticable.

I don't think most ATVs have a locking rear differential. I don't think they have a rear differential at all, unless they have turf mode. A differential lets the outer wheel turn faster than the inner wheel when you turn. When any ATV I ever owned was jacked up both rear wheels turned the same exact speed. Except for some play between the half-shafts it acts like a solid axle when you turn the wheels either direction. If someone holds one wheel still you can't turn the other one.
