Now that full electric motor packages are a legit off-roading option, one reader asks why we're not seeing solar panels used to extend vehicle range. Here's why:

In the summer when I do most of my riding I park in the shade whenever I can to keep the seat from getting hot. A solar panel wouldn't do me any good.

Bad Boy buggie already tried electric machines with little sucess...very little!

Not to mention, mud doesn't transmit sunlight too well.

It would be painfully slow and underpowered. Range would be extremely limited too. Just not a viable option.

Check out the last picture on this page. The only clean place to put a solar panel is on the seat. The sun doesn't shine out of my butt, and probably not his either.
