Default Is the rear shock on a 350x gas charged?

I'm trying to figure out how to adjust my buddies 350x rear shock on his bike. There is a cylinder which looks like it contains some kind of gas or air possibly. Since I"m not familiar with this bike at all I havent' messed with it much except thanks to you guys in part we were able to figure out how to adjust the chain. Anyways does anyone know what this cylinder does or how it operates the shock? THanks a ton guys!!

thats the remote reservoir. its charged with nitrogen and takes up the difference in space in the shock that the oil creates as its displaced by the shock piston. you shouldn't have to ever touch it unless you have it rebuilt. there is however a **** on the reservoir that you can adjust. its the compression adjuster and turning it in will stiffen the compression of the shock.
