250es big red tires
#1
This is an 85 big red. It looks like I am gonna need a set of tires for er. I use it for hunting in all weather and ground conditions. Snow, mud, rocks and the normal woods kinda stuff. What tires are the best for this application? I know I don't want to get to aggressive or the thing won't stear. I need front and rear tires. They have to be reliable and strong. Also can I mount these tires myself or do I have to have them mounted?
Thanks for the help

The best tires for woods romping that I've found are the mud busters.wooly boogers, etc. They seem to have the most bite without losing too much of your turnig ability. They don't slide as easy but the added bite is worth it. I've been using them since the early 80's. Also, you can do them yourself but, if you have a tire place do it it would cost under $20 and be a heck of alot faster and easier.

Have you ever tried the dirt devils? My local tire guy can get me a pretty good price in em mounted and out the door 60 bucks. The other question would be how would they work on the front?

I'm not too familiar with the dirt devils. The but in my findings the chevron contact patch with the knobby outside make a really goob combo for the ATC's.And I've also found for the front the stock front is quite a good option.I've never had any trouble with this F/R combo. Last winter I used flat tracks on my three all last year, woods, roads, winter, creek beds, etc. And found that my only down fall was really deep mud! If you use those inexpensive tires you spoke of what's the worst that can happen? At the least a sale on e-bay could result.

Thats what I am lookin for a good all around tire. Are they two ply? Sounds like the stuff I ride in. I have the elongaded knobbys on it now. They work ok but I would like more bite for the snow.

You can get them in 2 or 4 ply and they bite well in snow.Dennis Kirk has a couple of different styles to choose from.As a matter of fact I have them on a 225 dx three wheeler and also on my 87 polaris cyclone.

I have 4 ply 25x12.50 Kenda Bear Claws on the rear of my 86 big red, they are great in the mud, ride smooth and most importantly I have never had a flat on either of them.

I would get the same factory tires that came on it. You know they last almost 20 years and are pretty good all around tires. The factory tires are still rolling on my 85 Big Red with a little help from slime. Just my $0.02
