Could be lots of things...How old is the gas, if its older than 1 or 2 months, and didnt have stabil or other product in the gas, its probably no good.
Hows the oil level? Is it clean fresh oil?
If you lift the back wheels off the ground, will the motor turn them ?
Do you need to have it choked to keep it running?
It could be plugged up carb, idle mixture screw adjustment, or the clip postion on the needle jet. Could be clutch problem also.

I tried to find a picture of the carb, but no luck. It should be a brass screw, thats in a counterbore(doesnt stick up past the hole).
see if this site helps.

Gotta have a clutch, maybe not a manual one , but it should have an auto clutch. Sometimes a motor sits for so long...that the clutch plates stick together, and give symtoms like you had(dies when going into gear). I was trying to get a feel whether you had clutch or carb problems.
When you picked up the rear end and spun the tires...did it do it easily? No stumble or miss or hesitation? Then when you put it back on the ground.....same old crap? Then it sounds lean.
when you cleaned the carb...did it go ok? Everything went back together ok? was it dirty in the float bowl? Do you have an inline filter, or is it clean? It could be plugged again. The pilot jet has a very small diameter, and it doesnt take much of a piece of dirt or tank rust, to plug it.

carb clean
see if these sites help, they show how to disassemble and clean and adjust a carb. You could try your local library for a repair manual on your trike. it surprising but the library will probably have one for your honda. and in there they usually have the specs on the carb.
Usually the pilot(or idle mixture) screw is turned in, lightly, until it bottoms out. Be delicate here, it can be disformed if you turn too hard. From there, come out 1 1/2 turns, to start.
The pilot jet can be tough to clean, because the hole is so small. One way to know if its clean, is to look thru it, if you dont see light thru the hole....its still plugged. This is a very common problem, and its usually caused by a rusty tank, or fine dirt getting in the float bowl, and then getting sucked up into the jet and becoming stuck.
The clutch is under the right side cover, and probably ok. Starting it up, and spinning the tires, lubed it up. Its a wet clutch that is imersed in oil.
Id start by trying to adjust the mixture screw, before taking it apart. Lightly screw it in, and count the turns, then go 1 1/2 out, and try that.
hope this helps.

Dirty air filter, plugged vent in gas cap.
I think yours has cdi, but if it has points, they could be out of adjustment or worn out.
You have the mixture screw turned out 1 1/2 turns?
Did you check the float level? Could the floats be full of fuel instead of air?
does it run better with the choke on or off?
hows the spark plug look? worn out or clean.
Let me know how it goes.
