The only way for a banshee to run 85 mph with stock gearing is to turn it to 14,000 rpm. Since stock pipes and airbox limit the rpms to about 9000, it can't do it.

 

hey I m not sure what a banshee will do but It really depends on the rider on the bike, you can have the fastest bike in the world and a little 200X can beat you because you cannot shift the bike get it. I have an 86 ATC 250R and I was racing a YZ125(LOL) anyway we were racing and racing and he kept whooping my A**, then my friend jacaob got on it and SMOKED him, and he has a 690 long rod raptor on racing gas. So my point is that most of it is the rider, for sure.

 

banshees are embarassing slow out of the box and the R's even more. you guys have to remember that these things hauled back in the day (80's) but show up at the drags (glamis) with anything less than a ported and uncorked shee or R and youll be getting beat by most of the 4 strokes that show up.

and your ricer friend probably had 18" rims that made the speedo completely inaccurate.

 

hey I will show up with my 250R ATC secret engine work. and built by sparks, I will put money down and gurantee I will smoke you or anyone at the drags, I am going to pismo the 4th I will blow by 450 and banshees like there standing still,and trust me ive raced them there nothing compared to my R.

I am talking about you say that if you show up at Glamise with nothing that ported and uncorked R I will get smoked. Well yes I will agree on that, but if I went to Glamise with engine work it will be a whole different ball game.

 

Then you might run in to some of those Triple Cylinder shee's running on alcohol/methanol!!!! MAJOR HP!!!

 

Sigh....this is such a lame post, but find myself posting. Anyway. They are both fast bikes. The 85-86 250R bike, in stock form is as fast as the Banshee, but it does depend on the rider. Most bikes are designed to have a maximum top end speed from the factory. I'm sure that the manufacturers can get more out of a 350cc twin motor (such as the TZ350 ?? road bike), but don't. The Raptor's 660cc motor is a dog compared to an R6....why? because it is detuned so they don't purposly kill someone. The bikes were designed with a specific top end speed in mind. The banshee and 250r were to top out in the 70-75 mph range. When I got my first R, we raced our freind's banshee a hundred times. Most of the time the ATC beat the banshee, but not by much. The bike also weighs about 100 lbs less.

Here was a ice race we did last winter. This was a 250cc ATC with reeds, carb, pipe, porting, etc vs a banshee with the equivalent setup.

Pay attention to the top end speed. We are about the same.....so now I have a 330 motor.

 

Atc250, the comparison between the R6 and the Raptor is the most rediculous comparison I have ever seen!!! The R6 is a 4cylinder machine!!! Of course its going to waste the Raptor!!!!! But I defiantely agree that the manufacturers do limit the machines TRUE capabilities in stock form, in truth, its all about how you tune the bike and build it that determines its true potential......

 

Tellico...think before you speak. Of course it's how you build the motor that matters, but the bottom line is that there are several design decisions that have been made by the manufacturers prior to you even getting the bike. The point I was trying to make is that if the manufacturers of the bikes wanted an ATV that did 150mph, then they would build one. That was the purpose of the R6 / Raptor comparison. Not whether or not the R6 and Raptor are a good comparison in a race. Do you get it now!?!!?!? The motors are produced at the factory to make a maximum amount of power. If you want to take it from there, then that's up to you.
