I want to trick my 85 out, to get enough horsies to hang with the rest of the crowd, but I don't want to lose any reliability, I will be using it for mild track use and trails, and dirt roads. i will be picking up the bike in 3 weeks and already have 200 dollars holders fee on it.

So far i am purchasing

6mm stroker crank from powroll
xr200 cam
xr200 28mm carb(stock)
and xr200r intake
and I can't decide on the bore kit, i don't want to go with powroll's kit because i don't think 10 cc's is worth the money.

Any suggestions on the bore kit and suspension mods?

 

Jakey, Im not sure if the xr200r intake will work. Im guessing that you got some of that info off of 3wheeler.orgs magazine articles. I just wanted to let you know that when they used the xr200r intake it was in a quad frame. Not a trike frame.

 

For the suspension Id go with a 250r front end w/ 350x rear shock or you could go with a 350x front end. All that is required is a little steering stop modification. For the rear shock all you have to do is some fabrication on the shock linkage.

 

WOW you are good. How well does the swap help. I really like how the x handles, i just wish it had more travel. I am really thinking about using the 350x shock though.

what about the bore kit

 

If you talk to Muddy200x at 3wheelerworld.com, he can help you on the shock linkage modifications. He can also help you out with the 350x front end since he did the swap him self. When I got my 350x I was amazed at how much better the suspension is than the stock 200x. If you are definitly planning on using the 350x shock you will want to go with the 350x or 250r front end. What kind of tires are you using. My favorite tires for a 200x are 18s with a 13 or 14 tooth countershaft sprocket. O yah once you do the suspension swap pick yourself up a pair of 350x or 250sx rims(I would go with the 350x considering they are aluminum versus the sx steel rims which are heavier). You could also pick up a pair of 86 200x hubs that will widen the rear end a total of 2 inches plus the 3-4 inches the 350x rims will give you. With the new suspension, hubs and rims your x will feel much more stable. I wouldnt even get a bore kit, maybe a 10.25:1 compression piston with the stroker crank. You may have to get clutch mods with those mods because the stock clutch may not hold up to all the new power. But Im not sure havent done any mods to my brothers 200x yet.

what will i have to do to the intake to get the carb to get enough air?, maybe a k&n filter?

Will the 350x suspension mods raise the bike any?

 

The 350 front end will raise the 200x around 3 inches and Im sure it will raise the rear a little bit to. Thats why I would go with 86 200x hubs and 350x rims so it wont be so tippy. Just for reliability reasons Im not sure if id go with the stroker crank because of the price and the time involved with splitting the cases. If you arent doing it yourself it could get pricey. For the filter you could go with a uni or k-n. I know my next filter will be a Uni. I just remebered that if you use an xr200r piston you can retain oem quality and it will bump the compression to 10.25:1(from the article at 3wheeler.org). Dont forget you will have to use the 350x tripple trees with the 350x forks, the 350x forks are a larger diameter than the 200x forks. You could get the piston from www.servicehonda.com or www.denniskirk.com I think. Heres the list of what I would do:

I wouldn't be hard to build one to beat alot of Quad today they are so light the motor is easy to work on, first get the biggest cam out there to buy have a local shop work with you to get a machine shop to port polish it get a 11:1 piston put a 35.5 carb on it from a 400ex W/B pipe K&N Stainless valves and bigger ones are avalible, heavier springs make sure they deck the bowl get the piston closest to the valves this will give you best fire and best compression, becareful with the kick start they break easy you will not have a compression release, if you build it like this you will be eating 400z/kfx400/400ex ...don't kill yourself

If you go to a bigger carb, you must use the matching intake. No way around it. the stock one is only 26mm and you can't bore it to match the carb. Not enough material to work with.

The mid-80s intake from the XR200 [28mm] would work in the trike frame, but Honda has discontinued that item.

The intake from the 2002XR200R will work in a quad frame, but not the stok 200X frame. In the 200X frame, you will have to make a new boot from the carb to the airbox. It's not a big deal.
