Default mods to a '83 185s

wondering what i could do to a '83 185s to give it a little more gotcha?

rebuild the engine, make it run on NOS or alcohol...lol

A larger carb and bigger headpipe will wake up those engines and make a big difference. They are smothered from the factory. You will have to get a different intake when you swap the carb and make a new airboot between the carb and airbox as well.

After that, the next step would be an XR200 or 200X camshaft.


If you shop right, you can get all of this, including the carb and intake for under $400

On the exhaust, You can get the Cobra steel system and still use your factory muffler with the Cobra header pipe if you choose not to run the Cobra megaphone. The Cobra header pipe is nearly a 1/2" larger than the stock header and this is where you added power comes in with the larger carb.
