My 84 was built in 6/83 so I would say you prob. have a 86 except for the fact it is a "early year" could make it one or the other (no help huh) If you want to know about the vin PM "knowsalot". rob,
Look on the steering head behind the headlight. There will be a 17 character code stamped there. It is read according to the SAE standards.
The year model designation will come from the 10th character.
F=1985
G=1986

Yes. I can do that, but the system is way to complicated to break down on here and have you match it....I would be typing for an hour to get all of that on here....LOL
Post your entire serial number, and I can tell you what each letter and number means regarding your trike.

I finally took it for a ride today and it's definatly worth putting a few bucks into it works good,1st 2nd and 3rd gear pull really hard,didn't really go fast enough to use anymore gears since i'm not familiar with the trike yet,reverse works good to it's just a pain to use cause the lever is broke so you have to get off and push it into reverse with your foot.

OK..........Here we go....
J=Vehicle's country origin is Japan
Y=Vehicle's manufacturer is Yamaha Motor Corporation
3=Vehicle is an All Terrain Vehicle
1EV=Product code for YTM225DRN Tri-Moto [All 225 models ended with "V" designating it a 225 engine]
00=This means that no updates were done to your 225 since production of that model began that year
4=This is Yamaha's code designating it the 4th model of their Tri-Moto lineup for that year
F=1985 Year model
C=Yamaha Factory Code [No one but them knows what it exactly represents]
006915= This is the sequence number of your trike. Yours was #006915 off of the assembly line.
Well....not alot of anything interesting really, but that's the breakdown.
