reed spacer on a 85 250R ?
#1
I am a prowd owner of a 250R and I was wandering if anyone has had any luck with adding a reed spacer and does it add any preformance ? I have stock reeds , k&n filter, dg exhaust. What other mods work good ? Its already very fast, but i just like to tinker !!

I have a Boyesen RAD valve and a Hinson spacer plate. The spacer costed $20 from White Bros. It seemed to add a little low end response. You should try some Boyesen dual stage reeds, I have a pair if interested. Some people also use a CR250 reed cage.

A while ago i tried installing boyesen reeds to my stock cage and it didnt work as good as I thought. I did rejett and i noticed it did have a little better low end, but at topend those reeds just wouldnt move fast enough, so my top end dropped off like a switch, and the jetting was right guaranteed. I decided to go back to the original reeds and there was my top end again. On another subject, has any 3-wheeler owners thought about selling their atc250R and getting a 4-wheeler ? I have , but i think i will be disappointed. What do you think ?

I answered your question on the extremeatv page about the spacer, (Durchanek). But here are a couple more ideas.
My Woods Bike setup from intake to pipe: k&n, kehin 39 pwk, boyessen power reeds on a stock cage, spacer plate, cleaned up ports, .120 over Wiseco Pro-lite, decked the cylinder to set the squish at .060, shaved head and rechambered the dome, DG pipe ans silencer (bike came with it). A setup like this will give you all the power you'll want. It'll probably be unbearable in the tight woods though. It has a nasty powerband that's more suited for the track. I can't say that the spacer works or not, the bike came with it, but with the extra mods I've done, the bike is a monster.
If you're a duner with a more cash to spend, this is my ice racing bike setup: k&n, 38 over to 39mm Kehin alky carb, boyessen rad valve machined to 39mm with carbon fiber reeds, fully ported, polished and decked by FTZ, 16cc FTZ dyno head, 86 style .050 Nik's piston (cast piston for lite weight), 89 style 4mm long rod with spacer plate, Paul Turner Hi-rev pipe, fuel pump, PVL digital ignition (no flywheel). (this setup is awsome.) It beats most fully modified banshees and all of the Lt500's I have come across)
If I had to choose what to do to your bike next, I would put on the boyessen reeds, and get a larger carb. That will give you the most bang for the buck. Good Luck.

the spacer is only 20 bucks.. he does help loend..put more importantly it moves the reeds farther back(away from the cyl.)so when your reeds open up it makes better use of the porting as far a sellin the trike? dont think so..or trading for a quad?...makes my stomach turn just thinking about it..

I have enjoyed my 250R. Nothing feels better than to out preform a 6000 dollar ban****tee, along with the attitude of the rider. I think that the 80's were the muscle car days for atv's, when they could make any machine they wanted because there were no government restrictions or lawsuits waiting to happen. The new atvs are nice, but the rockets are no more , they are just watered down versions. I heared the rapture only had 41 hp. That sucks for a big 660 5-valve ???
