I have the nicest bigred/ Its an 86 250es just got it rebuilt and it runs liek a top. Speed is not a big thing but that thing hauls my *** around pretty dam fast/ lol

 

I don't think I have the nicest Big Red... But slowly but surely, my 1985 250ES WILL BE! I just got it about 2 months ago, from a friend... I got it in a deal I made with him, in which I had absolutely NO MONEY INVESTED! The thing runs like it's new! The plastics were all beat to hell and back when I got it, and the seat was horrific! But now I've replaced the rear fenders, the trunk lid, and the seat has been recovered. I'm currently waiting on the left and right side covers that I ordered to arrive... The next project, is the front fender, and gas tank... And then of course, new tires! I love it! When I was 15 (I'm 31 now) I had a 200 Big Red... I always said I'd get another one... And that I did! I'll post pics as soon as I get time to take some! I wouldn't sell it for any amount of money... BUT I think if I WERE to ever sell it, I'd have to ask around $1200 - $1500 due to it's condition... And it's soon to be MINT state! It still has the original tools & bag under the seat, and they have no rust at all on them! Guess I'm the winner on that deal!

 

My first time on this forum as I just joined. I purchased a 198_? yamaha ytm200 for my son on Labor Day2013. He road it all over our 2 acre yard. When he came out after dinner it wouldnt start even with starting fluid in cylinder and new plug. It has spark and fuel flow. Im told compression could be issue and or valve stem gap off. I dont know where vin number is to identify to get proper info or how to know when I am in compression or exhaust stroke. It is pull start and chain drive. Was yellow and seller painted it black. Suggestions?

 

Been a long time since I worked on one of the old Banana boats as I called em. You can check if valve clearance is too tight the old redneck way. Remove the plug,and rocker arm caps,carefully have a straw down the plug hole,pull the recoil and as the intake rocker arm slowly comes up so should the straw.Stop when piston is close to the top(tdc). Then just feel if either rocker arm is tight. Think the clearance is .002 -.004 for the intake, .004 -.006 for the exhaust.

 

Last year, I purchased a 1985 Honda Big Red 250ES with only 20 original hours from the original owner. Have all the documentation since new, even the original Honda Team ATC sticker, still like new Basically I changed all the fluids oil/differential, new battery, spark plug and air filter. It fired right up like a Honda should!

Just installed a new OEM speedometer, with cable kit/bracket, new Hondaline headlight guard, rare rear mudflap with exhaust finisher (both not installed yet) and have the red ATC cover with it.

Now I'm looking for new OEM Hondaline rubber footpegs, front toolbox and Hondaline Working Light, and it will have all the optional accessories

 

Mine's definitely not the nicest but I picked it (1984 ATC 200ES) up for $200 not running from the 2nd owner so all the plastics/engine were in great shape. Have put about $700 onto it (header, muffer, bearclaw tires, 3000 Lb winch, fork boots/seals, carb kit, hand grips etc..) wouldn't sell it as is for under $1500 but I'm going to keep it because it will pull a fullsize car (1954 desoto) up a steep hill no problem & I like lt.

 

That's a great deal! Also, don't sell it because you would most likely regret it. They are getting harder and harder to find in excellent shape, at least in the Northeast anyway.
