Can someone tell me how to check the gear oil in a 250r. Should oil come out of the scew hole? Are how much and what kind does it take? I took the screw out and nothing came out. Man a dipstick would sure be nice.

I used to run 80w-90 gear oil in mine and fond that it made it clunk when going into gear. I now run an oil designed for Mitsubishi manual trans' that is a a lot thinner but I use it because I work at a dealer and get it for free. I'd say run 10w40 in winter and 20w50 in the summer but make sure you get motorcycle trans oil and not conventional automotive engine oil since it has to run through the gears and auto oil is not formulated for that. As for capacity the Honda manual says to put 600cc for a regular oil change and 800cc after a complete tear down. Some oil should come out when you open the screw but not a whole lot. I hope that helped.

IF YOU LOOK IN A REPAIR MANUAL IT SAYS TO USE 10W30 IN WINTER AND STRAIGHT 30 IN THE SUMMER REGULAR MOTOR OIL. I USE 10W30 MOBIL 1 MOTOR OIL IN MY BIKE AND HAD NO PROBLEMS IN 3 YEARS. AND THE CLUTCHES STAY MUCH CLEANER ALSO.
