hello everyone, new to forums, old to rbuilding 3-wheelers and 4 wheelers..lol..anyway..just got may hands on a 84 honda 200es, very good shape, best yet...it was free !..first..let me state..i've rebuilt a 82..83..and an 86 honda trx 250 four trax..but..nothing that i had to tair down the motor. anyway..the prob. i've got with this 84 honda 200es is..the jug had bad gaskets from either a bad machanic, or..just age..either way..i had to pull the whole motor out in order to get the jug off...i had to remove the timming chain and cam..my question is..is thier anyway i can get the timing set with the lower cam gear..without taking off the whole left side of the engine ???..i can see the timing mark on the camshaft gear on the top of the motor ..where the chain rides,,,but..how can i make sure i get the chain in the right position..on the bottom cam gear..without tairing the whole left side off my engine ?????...i don't want to do this..unless i really have to..surely thier has to be a way to get the chain back in the right position on the lower cam gear ???..any help would be greatly thanked !!!!!

with a little bit of wiggling you should have no prob. getting the chain back on the crank gear. If you have a broadband connection I will send you the part of the manual you need. You can post your e-mail or PM me (click my little padlock on this post)

Yeah it sucks when it comes off the bottem. I use to lay the engine on the right side and let gravity help me out. Slowly turn the flywheel back and forth until it goes back on. Of course it doesn't matter where you end up as far as timing. Use the T mark on the flywheel to time the cam to the crank.
