valve adjusting
#1
i have a 1983 185s and a 1986 200s, and am wondering what the clearance is for the valves on each machine. also, is there an easy way to adjsut the intake valve, or am i going to have to work around the frame? i am also totaly lost on the cam chain tension. i basically need to know how, step by step, and when i need to worry about it. i'm jsut working on getting everything running at its top for the summer. while i'm at it, is there an adjuster and how do i adjsut the cam chain tensioner on a 1985 350X? Thanks

The valve clearance on both machines are the same.....0.002 in on both the intake and exhaust.
Adjusting the exhaust valve isn't as hard as it appears to be once the cap is removed.
The camchain tensioner is adjusted very easily.
With the engine already warmed up, let it idle and loosen the bolt in the center of the adjuster cap. It then adjusts itself. Retighten the bolt and kill the engine. You are done.
As for the 350X tensioner, I haven't been into one of those in years and while I know that it has an automatic adjuster, I am not sure if it's one that requires any "help" to adjust. Maybe someone else here can answer that one for ya.

so i want to get this right before i try. i know the valve adjsut process, but am still not totally sure on the cam chain tensioner. i looked at the file at parts fish, so i understand how the system works, so once its warm, i loosen the center bolt, how much do i loosen it? i'm assuming its just enough to let those pieces slip, then how long before i re tighten it? i'm assuming that i could immeadiatly retighten it, but i can never be too sure. i just dont have the money to do something wrong. please correct me if i'm wrong, and i would appreciate it if you would tell me if i'm right so i can go ahead and do this. thanks for help.
