Default 350X Carb trouble

I'm trying to help my friend with his 85 350x. But no matter what I try it still wants to run rich and not idle. I dissassembled the whole thing cleaned it and then soaked it in carb soak, reassembled it with a rebuild kit and it still runs rich and still wont idle. Any ideas?

Yes I have. It almost seems like theres something wrong with the float. The rebuild kit came with a new needle and it seals fine but it still floods and spits gas out the carb vents even while riding.

did you check your float height when you did the rebuild? sound as if the float is set too high

The float should be plastic which means you really cant adjust it. Mine had the same prob of spilling gas out the overflow, but that meant that seat in the carb is bad. I dont think you can replace that. If he needs some carb parts I have a couple of them apart. PM me if he needs something.

A buddy of mine recommended I replace the float seeing as how it sat for several years with no use he thinks the float may be leaking or twisted. I dont know but I'm about ready to tell the guy to get another carb so I can finally finish the job.

you might want to move your E-clip on the top of your needle.

I probable sound dumb but what exactly is the e clip? I am having similiar problems, and I rebuild my carb but did not replace the needle.

also my trike will idle when I fire it and then after riding for a while if I stop and go to neutral it wants to stall with the idle screw almost all the way in.

its not a dumb question at all. if you take the top of your carb off. and look down into it you will se a small circular clip on the very top of the needle there will be usually 5 grooves cut around the top of the needle. looking at it how it sits in the carb move the clip closer to the top to lean and lower to the bottom for a richer mix.

I fixed my carb. problem on my 350x by switching to a stock carb off a 250x this is a newer generation carb and will give your 350x more power. I used this set up for about a year,(this is a cheap fix about $25.00 on ebay) and was very happy with this carb........... until I got a 350x motor with a 430 kit installed, than I went to a 39mm fcr (this is not a cheap fix,ie power cost money) which is what I run today and I am thrilled with this set up. hope this helps bixxl
