Default Restoring a Honda ATC 200s

I Have a 200s that I am trying to restore...two problems...where can I find the pull start assembley for cheap ??, also how can I tell if it is creating a spark ???

another thing...do you really need the compression cable connected to the pull start assembly...is it necessary to have this thing hooked up ???

to test for spark remove the plug, earth it to a clean unpainted surface on the engine and then turn the engine over and look for spark. The decompression cable will make it easyer to start.

I would say yes, its only there to make starting it a whole lot easier...even tho i doesnt create that much compression to start with..i would say drop it unless u drive it in winter...then its a big plus to have

thanks for the info..I think I will remove it because I cant get it connected in the pull starter assembly...I had to rebuild it and cant seem to get it hooked up...those starters are a real bear to put back together...even worse when the rewind spring comes undone.

on to the spark thing...if I cant get any spark...which part would you start replacing...I have two of these machines and will use one for parts (starter assembly down on both units).

any tips on how to keep the rewind spring attached to the pulley so that it doesent come undone when you pull the rope...

thanks all for all of your help

try disconecting your on off switch when testing for spark ,it may be stuck in the off position. Also try another plug .Its best to start less expensive parts.
