I have a 1985 honda 250sx,Everything works great on the bike but the manual kick start,It does not catch at all and when i shut the bike off I hear a winding down sound like something is spinning and it comes to a stop after about 3-5 seconds.Electric starter works great.any ideas,I am about to just pull it apart to see whats the deal

Sound very much like the "one way clutch", Honda calles it a sprag clutch, located behind the centrifical clutch. If you don`t replace it the spinning and clunk you hear will eventually ruin the teeth on the end of your starter and starter gears. This as a very common problem with the 85-87 big reds. I have replaced lots of them around here. It`s not a big job but you will probibly need a right side case gasket if the cover has never been off before.

I had the same problem. While i was in the case fixing it, I decided to try something different and converted it to manual clutch. But the problem in mine was the gear came off of the shaft it rides on, It doesntseem to have a clip that holds it on or anything..
