Timing issue on my freshly rebuilt 85' 200x
#1
ok, i just finished rebuilding my motor fresh. everything is perfect to book, only one problem, it seems that my timing is off by a hair or two. now, i kick it over and it almost wants to start sometimes but most of the time it wont even attempt to sound like it will start. how can i reset the timing/ or adjust it without having to pull the head cover off again and moving the sprocket by hand?

sounds like it's off by 180 degree's,take the cdi off and open the cap over your fly wheel turn the fly wheel till you see the "F" now advance the timing 180 degrees and let us no if it starts, basically by being off 180degrees you just flood your bike trying to start it,it basically gets gas then fires after or the other way around should get gas as it fires, thats why it sounds like it wants to start, does it smell like gas when you kick it over?

Put your crank on TDC and make sure all your valves are free, if not then your mechanical timing is off, and you will have to reset the cam. If they are free, make sure your valve adjustments are good, Then remove the CDI cover, turn the crank to "F" and set the rotor to fire, you loosen the 2 screws on the ring and turn it to line up with the rotor, should be good to go at that point (timing wise)

well, heres the problem now, i pulled the carb off, cleaned it all up and reinstalled it, kicked it over and it started! it was struggling to stay on but she was running. then after about 30 seconds of being on, the damn thing just locked up.. has fresh oil and everything so i dont understand why it locked up. so to check it, i checked the timing again and its off by 180 degrees again. im trying to figure out how that happened??? needless to say, the piston as at the top dead center so that means its probably hitting a valve and got stock, im gonna take off the head and see if it cause any damage. as for the timing, i lined up the cam sprocket "O" to the v like it says and the "t" on the flywheel to the line like it says. both the t and the o should be facing up correct?

nevermind, i pulled the top end off, and guess what, it seems that the piston rod is stuck. i guess it needs new bearings now. screw it, anybody have a complete good bottom end for an 85' 200x they are selling?
