Default KF Honda ATC/XR/XL 185-200 Camshaft Info

There have been alot of questions surrounding the camshafts used on these models lately.
I thought going over all 3 variants of these OEM camshafts in one post would be helpful to many and answer some of those questions.

Camshaft Part# 14101-965-000------MSRP---$80.47------Status: Still available from your Honda dealer as of 12/09/04
This camshaft is used in ALL of the ATC 185/200 series engines except for the '86-'87 200X engine.
And yes, the '83-'85 200X cam IS the same as all the other ATC 200 models.
1980 ATC185
1981-1983 ATC185S
1981-1983 ATC200
1982-1983 ATC200E
1984 ATC200ES
1984-1986 ATC200S
1984-1985 ATC200M
1983-1985 ATC200X
1984 TRX200

Camshaft Part# 14101-446-000------MSRP---$78.42------Status: Still available from your Honda dealer as of 12/09/04
This camshaft is used in ALL XR versions of the 185 and 200 dirtbikes up to the 2002 model year except the '84-'85XR200R.
1979 XR 185
1980-1984 XR 200
1981-1983 & 1985-2002 XR 200R

Camshaft Part# 14101-437-000-----MSRP---$70.13------Status: Discontinued at one point but currently available in limited Qty as of 12/04
This camshaft is used exclusively in the dual sport bikes and has a higher lift and duration than the XR version camshafts.
1979-1984 XL 125S
1979-1983 XL 185S
1983-1984 XL 200R

These are the ONLY cams used by Honda on any given 185 or 200 series engine of this engine design.

Valve springs are identical on all of the above engines and all 3 camshafts will directly swap with any other engine listed above.

Most, but not all, camshafts have the model prefix stamped on the camshaft. For example, a camshaft from a 1982 ATC 185S might have the numbers...965...stamped into it. Look at the part number for the camshafts above and you will know what cam to look for when visiting the salvage yard.

Granted....neither the XR or XL camshafts are racing camshafts, but they do offer more than the stock cam and at a much more affordable price......and do not require heavy duty valve springs.
