Default What Octane?

Don't worry, I have had similar problems. Although I believe mine were related to jetting (not going to bigger jet as temp went from 40F to -10F. I had to get a new head cause the pitting was so bad. Then I bought the wrong piston (I now let the shop do the bore/hone to match a piston). It was too small and it wobbled in the bore, catching the skirt on a port (marring the port/bore) and breaking off the skirt on that side.

I hope someone chimes in about leak testing. The Adobe Acrobat price list you can download from Duncan Racing (www.duncanracing.com) shows "Complete Engine Rebuild" for 250r to be $395. It would be interesting to see if they would do that after the rebuild.

It would also be cool to know how much to just do a leak test. That way if your case assy doesn't need to be rebuilt, you can have someone re-sleeve your cylinder and bore/hone it for a 295cc Prox-piston. Finally, buy a coolhead, get minor port work, and you're off.

I would do some idle, 1/2 throttle chops, or something less abusive than WOT chops to see if its running lean. Its easier to check plugs again and again, then to put on a new top end

Real encouraging HA2 :-(

Are you trying to dampen our spirits so you can come in and steal our prized possessions for pennies on the dollar? Just kidding.

What are your experiences that have given you this impression? Would this be your impression of all the shops (LRD, ESR, CT, etc.). What is your favorite shop? My only experience is the above mentioned price list and some internet research on the others.

i will not comment in detail and make this turn into the normal internet bashing. i have plenty of mutual friends and family, just remember i live in San Diego where they are based, so my experience is enough to make up my own mind. they do make some fast stuff though for what they specialize in. no arguement there.

remember i like to dune and shoot the hill and am more of a recreational rider. i like ESR and Dave Moore Racing. I dont think they are the best by no means, but they cater more to my needs i guess you could say.

my comment was more towards, you get what you paid for, and duncan's stuff isnt cheap.

I'll be calling Duncan and ESR in the next couple days to see if either wants my business.

Right now, my plan is to send in the jug for 295 resleeve, bore/honed to their piston choice, buy coolhead with 22cc dome, and figure out how to do this air leak check thing.

I'll let yall know how it goes.

Either can set you up with a screamer. I would recommend Dave Moore, but he's so swamped right now it isnt even funny. He's had my cylinder for over a week and I havent even been able to talk to him to tell him what i want.

ESR has great customer service.
