200X coil update
#1
For 200X (185,185s and 200 models NOT 200S OR 200M)
Honda part number 30510-167-003 is a direct replacement as an 83-85 200X ignition coil it is from a
1983 Honda NH80MD AERO 80 scooter and is currently still available through Honda for about $40 from Service Honda.
The Hondas
XL500R, ATC 185,185S and 200 and several others also used the (same coil with different part numbers) which doesn't make sense but all have been discontinued by Honda.

Great info on the coil swap Jeff.
I am sure it will come in handy for future reference for many others here at some point.
I already added the info to my data base.
Thanks.

Hey Patrick
About time I give you some good information back huh? LOL
Hows the racing going?
*****************************
Hey Glennj
I figured it out by spending a bunch of money again. LOL
LONG STORY TIME AGAIN;
I found a new 200x coil on EBAY with the numbers BS41-CDI (which was listed in the wrong area so I was the only one to bid and got it for $17.99)
Then I saw another new one listed for a 200X and asked the seller what the number was and it was AS41-CDI with the part number on the package being 30510-167-003 so I figure what the heck and bought that one too.
When I recieved them I tested them both and the resistance on both coils are exactly the same which kinda stumped me since I knew after enlarging pics from EBAY that the ATC 200ES has the coil with the markings AS41-CDI and its resistance is supposed to be different from the 200X (BS41-CDI) but both coils test the same.
I then started checking part numbers and found the second coil to be for a 1983 Honda NH80MD AERO 80 scooter which I have never heard of and found that its still available from Honda when all other vehicles using the coil with the markings AS41-CDI have been discontinued. Which would include the early 80's
ATC 185, 185S, 200, 200ES and 200S and several bikes that I had found. The part I didn't understand was that all the machines with the coil (AS41-CDI) had different part numbers and the 185,185S and 200 are supposed to have the same resistance readings as the 200X even though they have different numbers on the coil.
Both coils test identical and to the specs for 200ES,200S and have a nice blue spark on the X.
After switching to VP C12 racing fuel ($6.50 a gallon) and having to richen up and now with a new coil and having to richen up again I'm gonna wear my carb out.

Hey Jeff.
The racing this year has gotten off to a bad start I am afraid. Had an accident a little over a month ago that really roughed me up. Broke my left thumb, sprained right thumb, had a stick stabbed through my right bicep, and nearly blew out both knees.......keep in mind that this was all from one crash....LOL I did somehow end up finishing the event though. I put in about another 12 miles when the checkers came out. Ended up in 6th place.
I haven't raced since that time,...but I am making my comeback this Sunday. It's still a bit too soon and I admit that, but I can't afford to lose too many points,...so I am going out there to see what happens. If I feel it's still too soon after getting out for a bit, I will pull off. Loretta's is next month and there is no way I am missing that race by over-doing it now...LOL
Again...thanks for the info on the coil swap.

Its just a stock replacement since the originals have been discontinued and I bought a couple used ones on EBAY a while back that weren't any better than the one I had. So its just future reference for riders who would like to have new replacement for a bad coil.
Well patrick I wish you the best of luck with the racing this weekend, a couple weeks back about 25 of us went wheelin' on the river up here in northern Wisconsin. One lone 200X against all 4x4s, I'm pround to say many were impressed with how the X kept up with the 4x4s. It didn't handle the places where the ice was cracked and fallen into the river as well though, yup I crashed! I was only doing about 40mph when the right rear fell into an unseen hole but I was sore for quite a while, SUPERMAN would have been proud of my flight! I was happy about not breaking or bending the X up though, I think 5 of the 4x4 rider crashed as well through out the day and they wrecked a lot of stuff. Anyways giver' this weekend and keep yourself healthy for the Loretta Lynn.
