Can someone please tell if the nut that holds the clutch on is regular or reverse thread. Or which way do you turn it while facing it. Also can you get it off without the special socket?

TIA

It is normal right handed threads. And the TOOL IS WELL WORTH THE $12. You can get it off without the tool but you will most likley kill the nut. Plus you need it if you torque the nut back on (most people aren't too pickey on that, but.....) The part# on mine is Mp 08-015 Not sure I've seen you before, so welcome to the forum, and keep throwing the 200X questions at us, there are a ton of good people on here.

Thanks, have been lurking around for a few months gathering info. Am rebuilding parts that need it and will probably have more questions as is progresses.

Yes I thought I might try that. What size works the best?

I used a 3/4" impact 12 point socket and used an angle grinder to make the 4 teeth on it.

Note that the outside diameter of sockets vary from brand to brand slightly and an impact socket side walls will be thicker than a standard socket. I decided on the impact socket because I thoght it would be stronger.

Good luck

Jeff

Last weekend I changed the clutch on a 86 200x and once the cover was removed there were two large nuts to remove. The nut on the clutch basket was right hand but, the nut holding the oil filter( i guess that is what it is, its a centrifical force filter right? anyway) was reverse thread. I guess the 86 is totally different from 85 and older.

Okay guys, I made myself a tool and got everything apart no problem. The steel discs don't appear to have any heat marks on them and appear to be unwarped. A parts guy told me you have to measure the thickness of them to tell if they need replaced, is this true, and what are the specs? Or do you just replace the fibre discs?

TIA
