200x with oil cooler
#1
ok i am staying with the 200x engine because it will be alot similer to restore but i heared of putting an oil cooler in my 200x for more performance. how would i set this up and what kind of performance would it bring? will a 350x oil cooler work?

The only performance you will get out of an oil cooler is a cooler running engine, that might be worth around 1/2 a horse maybe a touch more. Finding a safe place to mount it on a 200x could be a little tough. The 200x engine has a pretty small oil pressure galley, and I'm not sure if you can tap into it or not.
You could achive the same engine cooling by purchasing the loovered front fender (or cut holes in you current one); and getting the bigger tank scoops. Another little trick I have used is; I wraped the head pipe on my wifes quad with Header wrap. The same stuff you use on V8 headers. It helped keep heat off the head where the pipe passes by, and helped keep my wifes leg cooler too.
Don't get me wrong......anything is possible.

Thanks Jeff.....I learned something new today on the 200X!!!!!!!!
But I see 3 problyms with there setup.
1. How much of a delay will there be in getting oil to your cam on startup? Because those lines and part of the cooler are going to drain back after it is shut down. And lets say it take 2 seconds to get full oil pressure to the cam, that could make the upper end wear faster. That could be one prob.
2. They way I ride that cooler would be trashed! (where they mounted it)
3. When a oil line blows would I get covered in hot oil?
(these aren't questions directed at you Jeff, just thrownig questions around for atc185s to think about )
Besides that, that is pretty cool!!

Hey Mike
Glad I am finally responsible for you learning something NEW! Normally its you enlightening me...lol
I too have been wondering the same things about the oil cooler set-up;
Braided lines was my fix to blowing the lines and a person could always design a way to keep the cooler from getting trashed but the delay in oil flow and pressure bothers me since the cooler is supposed to protect a modified engine from extreme heat build up but while protecting it you would be hurting it at start up.
I think I'll just stick with the super scoops and the 250R front fender.
