Default CR500 into ATC250R

Sweet.. Talked to a buddy today that has an early 90's CR500 that he is going to sell me for about a grand. Top and bottom of the engine is fresh with a fresh port and polish. Talked to another buddy of mine today about mating the trike and CR500 together and decided to just mate the trike stuff onto the CR500 frame. Best part is, he's willing to do the work and stretch out my swing arm for a couple of 12 packs. We plan on doing it all for under 2 grand. I'll post pics along the way.

I thought about a cr500r motor also but am going with the esr or psi. I have a ct 310 right now and kinda need more horses. Im pretty much done with the rebild on the trike, just need the pipe to come in. I heard about the vibration problem also so would rather a smooth ride (or smoother) I looked into the sabertooth and it does not fit into the atc frame. you have to cut the frame and that right there narrowed it down to esr or psi.

Well alittle vibration for the horses Im going to have isn't going to bother me that much. I do see what you are saying though. I just love the thought of having that big 500 pullin me around and can't wait till its done.

my dad put a cr500 in a suzuki LT250 frame once.. it vibrated soo bad he tore it apart sent the crank out to have it balanced and got it back.. it still vibrated tho.. he pulled it out and got a LT500 and put in the frame...
the main reason why the CR500 vibrates worse than 3 or 4 wheeler motors is it doesnt have a counter-balancer which come in the ATV engines..
i've ridden 3wheelers with cr500 in them.. pretty beastly and not near the vibration that was in the quad.. i've got a friend with a cr500 converted to 3wheeler that rides really well and less vibration..

something interesting... Dave Moore of MP racing's got a pretty nice 250R 3wheeler with a Polaris 400 cylinder on it .. thing is pretty dang fast.. i also saw him do a cr500 3wheeler but he just didnt get the porting/pipe combo right or something cuz he couldnt make it go as fast as his polonda... i think he gave up on that project.. kinda makes me sad.. i know theres a ton of potential in the cr500 motor.. my dad has one sitting in his garage we've been thinking bout dropping in a tecate3 i have sitting around.. this particular cr500 motor is crazy tho.. its setup for Methonal and nitrous LOL...

as far as just swapping a cr500 into a 250r 3wheeler, i'd say other than the fab needed to mount the engine in, extended swingarm is a must, and the easiest pipes are the side exit drag pipes.. 250r radiators will work fine, i'd grab the CDI box from the cr500 to run the motor..
i realize you're gonna just convert the cr500 to 3wheeler.. probably best plan of attack

i sure miss going to the dunes.. i used to go to glamis every thanksgiving from about 1992-1998 but havent been down there since hopefully i'll get to move back to oregon in the next 2 years and by then i'll have a kawasaki H2-750 powered drag bike

Thanks for the info Speedz. I heard about that polaris jug on the 250r engine. Do you know what they had to do to make that fit?
