I own a 1984 200x and I recently purchased a new chain and sprocket kit. After installing the kit, I went to adjust the chain tenlion. Now, If I adjust the chain with only the weight of the machine on the suspension and then get on the thing, it becomes too tight. Ive adjusted the chain with me on it, and when I ride it, the chaiin is noisy like it is hitting the rear shield. what the heck am I doing wrong?

 

Sounds like you have got it too loose if you ride it and hear it knockin around. With you on it you should have about a half inch of slack in the chain.
