Leak in gas tank

yea i ahd a pinhole in mine like a week ago...happend right in the middle of a trip it sucked......but i welded it closed...its just really hard cuz when its rusted through the meatl around it is really weak.....but alls we did was let the tank air out then got a stick about 3 feet long and dipped it in gas and lit it then stuck the burnin end in the top of the tank and POOF it all burns after about 3 times we let it cool and it was ok 2 weld just sometimes when we started weldin it would poof again but no big deal....(were kinda redneckish lol)

I wouldn't weld a gas tank. There's too much that can go wrong (burn through or explosion with shrapnel).
For a good fix, I'd take it to a shop and have it cleaned out and soldered. For a cheap way out, you could try to patch the hole with epoxy. But no matter what you do, if you don't get all the rust out from around where its leaking, anything you do will be temporary.
