I found all my info from an old post I had here. I was wrong about my main jet size. Here is the correct info. My main jet is a 180 and my pilot is a 55. The needle clip is on the 2nd groove from the top and it is a DDJ needle.

Ok I will try 180 main, 55 pilot is it possible that it would run like it was if it were lean or not jetted right?? I had 178 main 52 pilot would it be that big of a diff. from the 180 and 55 pilot to make it run like that ??

As far as cutting out at the top end, yes jetting will do that.

You said when you put your other carb back on it runs good... That should rule out eletrical problems. When it sputters on the top end that is a sign that it is to rich. Jet down on your main until it revs clean, crisp, and your plug is light brown/tanish. Im going to tell you right now that you probly wont even be close with a 170 main with a stock 85 jug. Start going down not up if it is indeed truly sputtering.

I have a similar setup, using a mildly ported 85 cylinder and an ESR 38 mm A/S. I have has as large as a 185 jet in it, but it usually runs best with a 168-172 main. The ESR primaries and needles are pretty close for an average trail machine. I never mess with them on my resto-mod cruiser...
