i just got this bike 4 weeks ago in real good shape - the axle. the bike had stripped splines in the inner diff part of axle.is this a common problem on the es big red shaft drive.and how much $ can i expect to pay for one.thanks

 

My advice is to be patient and watch the want ads for a parts bike or just parts. I dont know what part of Ontario you are in, but the local classified weekly magazine in my area (Barrie) is called the Supershopper and you can view the previous week's ads on line for free. You can also place a free "Wanted" ad, thats how I found a lot of the parts I needed for my 84 200M.

Found a 1984 Big Red parts bike in Midland, $350.00 OBO. 705-526-3586

 

i am looking for something in the ottawa area.i am in smith falls.that bike sounds good for $350 the best price i got was $250 just for the rear end sitting on the guys floor as is working when pulled gears in ? shape. with no refunds.i would take the drive but i drive a 1978 gmc 4x4 with 350 motor.that will kill me in gas.

 

The other thing to keep in mind as Im sure you are aware is that there is likely damage to the female side of the spline as well. Good luck I hope you find what you're after.

 

your right the splines are messed up on the gear part. the brake drum is stripped smooth and axle part to.well all i can do it find one if not get rid of it the bike.shame its in good shape.thanks for info

 

Theres a complete rear diff on ebay right now....that is an option.
