Honda ATC250ES Electric Starting Problem
#1
Hello,
I have an 86 Big Red that I am bringing out of retirement. The machine had not been started in a couple of years. I got the battery charged up, but the starter will not turn over. I can hear and feel a "clicking" in the solenoid when the starter button is pushed. I didn't think the solenoid was bad, but I purchased a new one just to eliminate the possibility. I installed the new solenoid, but still have the same problem. The machine does start right away by kick starting. There have been a couple of times after riding I turn the machine off and then I've tried to use the electric start and it acts like it wants to work for a split second, then back to clicking. Anyone have any thoughts on the problem? I did take the gear cover off where the starter gear engages the gears on the motor. I manually turned the starter and it didn't feel too bad.
Thanks,
Jeff

check your connections .
Then you can take your charger if it has a high amp start and hook it right to the lug on the starter and see if it turns over. That will tell you if the problem is in the starter or the battery and connections

I tried the booster setting on the charger right to the starter lug and it didn't do anything. I've now removed the starter and will be taking it to a repair shop tomorrow for diagnosis.
Thanks.
Thanks.
