how to tell difference from 200 and a 200 S Honda
Just picked up a 8? Honda 3 wheeler 200 or 200S How do you tell what you got?
there is no ID tag on the frame
was told it was an 85 then was told 82 or 84 by the people I got it from
It is not a Big Red they told me.
Just wanted to know if there are certain things that a "S" model has compared to a Honda 200 ATC
thanks in advance
a great bunch of knowledge is on this forum.
thanks

In general, S refers to "small tire version". ANY S...185 or 200, if original will have 8" wheels and 22" tires. There are no exceptions. The standard 185 and 200 models were equipped with 9" wheels with 25" tires,...again,...no exceptions.
However, things get changed over time when it comes to salvage parts. I think I posted something on here a while back that gave descriptions, but not sure.
Anyway,...regaridng the 200 models...
I take it that your machine is recoil starter only? If not, and you have electric start as well, you could have an E, ES, or M.
Also,...the 185 was recoil start only as well. You can look on the back of the cylinder to see if it has a 183 or 192 stamped into it towards the bottom where it meets the bottom end. You could also just post the engine number, located below the front sprocket to determine what model the engine is,...or the bottom end portion anyway. These trikes sometimes end up with a combination of different parts over the years due to countless ownerships and varying degrees of "fixing" things.
There are somtimes many things changed from one year to the next, but these are the easiest things to look for to determine the year,...if things havent been swapped over time.
1981 ATC 200......Headlight switch is located ontop of headlight....White tank stripe with 200 written in blue
1982 ATC 200......Headlight switch was moved to left side of handlebar....Blue tank stripe with 200 written in white
1983 ATC 200......Front shocks were added along with a larger black fuel cap. Other wise same as 1982 model.
1984 ATC 200S....Went to the 185S chassis and used the 81-83 ATC200 engine. New frame. New fender. Tank stripe runs rearward.
1985 ATC 200S....Fuel tank stripe is two shades of blue and do not run to the back of tank.
1986 ATC 200S....Fuel tank stripe is blue and white and the seat is blue.

Thanks Knowsalot,
when the sun comes up , I will check for those things listed and try to get the engine number.
1 other thing I know it needs is the head bearings(stem)? I was told there is a new style of bearings (roller bearings) to replace the old 21 *****.
is that correct ? and if so are they like a uni-fit?
thanks very much

Thanks again, I found your previous post
I came up with it being a 1983 ATC200
maybe you can double chk and see if we come up with the same.
here is the Engine # TB05E-22S4679
On the head stem area of frame # JHSTB0508DC292908
it has 25x12x9 tires and wheels
marked 182cm on head
thanks
