Big Red Metal Noise from Vent Tube??
1984 200es
This bike runs great... I am hearing a metal type raddle noise coming from the vent tube that runs off of the top of the engine/gear box up to underneath the seat. I don't know if I should be concerned. Some one told me that the noise could be the Cam starting to wear on the valves.
Any advice on what I should do,,,,,dive it till it dies or is their something that can be done to prevent it. Oil change?? Valve adjustment?
I just got it going, changed the oil with regular 10w-40 ran it for about 1 hour the changed the oil again with 10w-40 synthetic blend oil.. Only have ran it for about 10min and am now trying to figure out what that sound is before I take it out for a long ride again..
I didnt us motorcycle oil, do you think that I hurt it, (I just learned that their is a Motorcycle oil)
any thoughts? Thank in advance..

I would try switching to 20W50 before doing anything at all. Most older machines have a rough history and excessive wear....requiring heavier oil than what it needed in new condition. A valve adjustment never hurt either.
I would start with those, being they are the most common causes,...not to mention the cheapest to address.
