atc 125m engine into atc 110 possible?
Hi everyone, I recently bought a 1985 atc110. I plan on using it to trailer a small boat throught the woods. It runs ok, but smokes a bit. I checked compression and it was 150psi, which I thought wasn't to bad, so I am guessing the oil rings are shot. The bike also seems to break up if you rev it up in neutral. I put a new plug in,cleaned the carb, and changed the oil. Didn't really make a difference. It drives pretty decent though. Anyway, I noticed the 85 atc 125m seems pretty similar and was wondering if I could put the 125 engine directly on it for a bit more power, or even better if I could just put the 125 top end. any help is appreciated, thanks! I did something very simalar to this, I have an 85 110 that I bored out and put a 125 piston in, rejeted the carb with the jets for a 125m, workes fine, as far as power diff, not a hole lot, but if you use it for pulling a small boat, just swap in a bigger rear sprocket, I had one cut from sprocket specialties for $35. the factory is a 47 tooth rear, I went with a 59 tooth rear. Huge power diff, not top end at all, maybe 12 MPH but I use it to pull a big sand drag around a beach with loose sand. It will idle up the stairs on my deck. If I had it to do again I would not mess with the motor, and would probably get a sprocket with a few less teeth. I was 240lbs at the time and that little 110 would pull anything I wantedeven with me on it. If you go with a 50 tooth rear it would give you some noticable power down low and still allow some speed on top. oh and the nuetral break-up is caused by a clogged fuel pathway in the carb, cant be cleaned and soaks only work half the time, get a new carb for $45, it is jetted, dialed-in, and ready to go. It makes restorations or repairs so much easier. look here. http://dratv.com/index.html
