Default Checking for spark.....and I'm an idiot

Having issues with my 83 atc 110. Traded for it...has no spark...Bought a meter to test things (I don't know how to use it) needless to say I am back at square one. Any advice (besides bring it to someone else...lol) I really want to learn how to test to find out spark problems. Is there a certain meter I need if not what am I suppose to put it on and what to expect?

Sorry for being so dumb.....sigh

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Kaven

no meter needed......
place the plug against the head (with the plug wire hooked up) crank the engine over and watch for the blue spark...... the meter will help you check the coil for resistance, see your service manual for that info.

Your best source of help would be the service manual. I would think a local library would have the one you need, or ebay does. There are specific guides in the manual with steps to follow to troubleshoot a no spark condition.
Make sure the switches work..like the key switch and the kill switch.

I agree with Hondablaster
Get a manual
I looked in my Clymer M311 manual That the one you need
The tests are simple I was going to do an explain as to the tests but you need to follow illistrations
Need manual
But week spark is usually bad connections
No spark OHM meter
Good luck

Ended up just giving in and brought it to a local small engine guy. He didn't know anything about atcs but gave it a shot. Come to find out he opened up the crank case to clean out the magneto and found a cut wire deep inside. Fixed that and can shock yourself all day long now. Thanks for the help. With these old things you can never tell.

Best wishes

lol next time have your buddy hold the plug wire while you kick it over *sucks to be the buddy, but a blast to be the one doing the starting*

Seriously though glad you got it fixed.... happy trails
