I have an '86 Z that I am restoring, I bought new fork seals and took the forks apart but I cannot get the outside fork slider apart from the inside, I thought all I had to do was unscrew the long allen bolt on the bottom of the forks but they still won't come apart!?! Any help would be appreciated. Also how much fork oil goes in each leg? Thanks, Norm.

There should be a circlip under the shock boot also. It may be hiding under dirt.

He's right about the circlip. Then you need to put the outer body in a softjawed vice and pump the slider against the seal because it is a tight fit. Use the slider like a slide hammer. My atc 250R takes 400 cc but the 86 250r took 465 ccs. Good luck with the restoration. I am having a blast restoring my r.
