Default 1986 big red looking to buy.... BUT !

hey guys , first time poster, long time viewer. ...

if theres one part of any machine im not too keen on its the electrical. well , there is a 86 honda big red atc for sale right now for 450$ . its shaft driven, in pretty good shape, and ran 2 months ago .when he tries to turn it over, he turns the key to on , sees the green neutral light and then turns the key and just hears clicking ,
though he said he felt the clicking off the solenoid through the insulator boots and then would wiggle it and it would start up. now it wont. now its just clicking and nothing.

he bought a solenoid off ebay and it still wont work. who knows the quality of the ebay solenoid though. anyways, he tried to kick start it but nothing, and he thinks it has to do with something electrical cus the kick starter wont work either. its seems like its gotta be something simple and electrical, but dont want to shell out the cash and find out its junk and something else. i think he meant the starter relay is clicking and could feel that. i dont know.
i had an 1982 3 wheeler 110 when i was about 10years old, and miss it, so i want my baby back! please help on what you think it could be. thanks!

I'm pretty sure he's right about the starter solenoid. My 84 200 M did the same thing and I could feel the clicking coming from the solenoid. The ebay solenoid probably isn't good, but if it is you could have a short in the spark plug wire. It could be jumping to the metal of the frame. I would try to find another solenoid and if that still doesn't work check out the wire. Post if you get it fixed.

Oh, it could be the ignition coil. There are posts on this site on how to check it. You never know though, if it's neither the solenoid or the ignition coil you might just have to go through the whole electric system and check everything.

i dont think its the soleniod. if it was replaced its not it. if it clicks then it could be the starter. my 4 wheeler clicked all the time when i tryed to start it and it was the starter brushes. id check that first before u buy another solenoid

What I would do.... is hook up a volt meter to the battery then crank it over and see what the voltage is.
A dead battery may give you a green light ,but as soon as a load is but on you will get a clicking sound on ther silniod.

Next check for spark while kicking it over .
Is it getting fuel ! Pull off the hose to the carb,
Squit some in the sparkplug hole and try kicking it over.

I tried starting my Big red the other day and forgot to turn the lever on the fuel cap to on. It was not getting vented . Fuel tank got vacum locked and engine would not start >
