Default Wiring problem

I have a honda 250es and you can on start it when you connect the battery directly to the starter motor. And whenn you connect the battery to the statter relay and press start it does not work, does anybody know what the problem is.

it's looking for an alternate ground so it will run. Mine will only spark withOUT the battery connected even tho it spins good and fast with the starter. ...NO spark. Disco the battery and it sparks Gotta be looking for a way to compensate for a weak ground but haven't found it yet Some folks give up and put in a new wire harness cheaper and faster than m,essing with them for months and then who really cares what was wrong. it runs

I would check the 'starter relay'. That is what the relay is for...it allows you to use the starter button and send power to the starter.
