Default ATC70 shifts backwards. why?

I purchased an '84 Honda atc70 a couple months ago that wasn't running and wouldn't come out of gear (what I thought should have been neutral was actully forth). After I got it running I realized it shifts backwards. Any ideas on how to remedy this?

When you say it shifts backwards... do you mean the patern goes 4 down as you progress through the gears? If so, there's nothing wrong with your threewheeler... 81-85ish Hondas were built that way for some unknown reason. You can't fix it because its not broken and all it takes is a little getting used to. My dad's '84 200m is the same way.

yea. they designed them like that for some reason. all four gears down. it takes some getting used to, but i still like 1 down 3 up better.

1 up 3 down is good... But you can't beat 5 gears straight up like yamaha's!!!
