Default Horizontal engine oil

I was told by a buddy that I needed to use "horizontal engine oil" for my ATC 110. Is this true? I've been running plain old automotive type 10W-40 in it since I've owned it (1-1/2 years now). He said he remembered this from a mechanic at a Honda dealership when he bought one new back in 1984. I don't think I've ever even seen a special horizontal engine oil anywhere.

By the way, what viscosity oil should I be using?

10W-40 is fine, a motorcycle or atv oil for wet clutches is best. Any place that sells motor oil will have it. I've never heard of horizontal engine oil. I've used regular motor oil in the small ones too with no problems.

Thanks for verifying that for me... I was worried that I had been doing some harm to that old engine.

You know of anyplace that I can find replacement air filter elements? I wonder if any of the K&N fancy filters could be retrofit to it?

I think I put a NO Toil in my 85 110. You can still order the OEM ones from Honda.
