I personally wouldn't go any leaner than 32:1. Other people I've read go as far as 50:1 but I see that as just too lean. Right now I am breaking my 250r in from a rebuild and I'm running 20:1. From the way the bike feels and how my plugs are looking I may stay there. Yeah it smokes a little more but I have alot invested in it this time.

Default fuel ratio

I have 5 250r's different ratios for different things I run about 38-40:1 unless I am breaking in a top end. Also I suggest a good two stroke oil. The better oil the less ratio.

It also depends on type of oil as well, In my motorcross days I ran 20:1 Honda connventional oil and 30:1 once the hours got higher, and 45:1 when using BELRAY Full synthetic oil. Without a problem on a 82 CR250 ,same motor.

I run 20:1 using golden spectral on my 250r (83 vintage with an 84 engine) using a 1/2 cam 2, 1/2 prem pump gas mix. I'm at nearly sea level, jet correct, and let my bike warm up for 5-10 min before riding it.
I have gone through many top end rebuilds (2 sleeves worth)to learn it's the best mix for me. Remember it depends on your set up and how you use your bike to figure out your mix.
Everybody will recommend something, but no one will stand behind their mix when your piston melts. Start with whats factory recommended (20-1) and modify it from there to suit your conditions.
Don't want to offend anyone but it's nearly impossible to jet something without having the bike in front of them. I usually try to fall on the rich side for caution.
