What could it be?

Ok, i got a 1985 Atc 200s or x, not sure. The damn thing wont spark. We bought a new cdi box, something for the actuall cdi, not sure what it is,cleaned the mag out as much as possile, wired it almost every single way possible but the thing wont spark. My dad got it off this guy he knows for like $200 and he said he ran. Well we bought it to restore it from frame up and never even heard it run before we tore it apart. I did not open up the engine itself though. What could it be?

I had this problem last summer with mine. During the really hot and severly humid period that we had here in SE Nebraska along about July. I too bought a new CDI unit (not cheap either), and at first that did the trick. I would leave this machine at a farm place that we have about an hour from home, so it might not run for a week or sometimes two weeks. Anyway, about two weeks after putting in the CDI, it wouldn't start, and when I checked spark, there was not spark. I took the CDI out and put it back, and I had spark. I took the thing out again, sprayed the connections on the bike all off with electrical connection cleaner, then put it all back. It has run OK since, but we haven't had the hot humid stuff either. I wonder what will happen next summer.
You might try cleaning those connections up really good, if you have not already done that. Good luck.
