ATC Restoring
#1
I'm doing some finishing touches on my 1985 350X.
All of the mechanics are completed and ready for re-assembly. I am now going over all of the cosmetics (Plasitic, aluminum and painted) parts of the machine. What are the best products to use to bring the original plastic back it's newest appearence? And, What is on the market to best polish the aluminum parts of the machine?

GOOD CHOICE OF MACHINE TO BRING BACK TO LIFE AND RESTORE. I THINK THE BEST THING TO USE ON THE PLASTICS IS TO USE A TYPE OF ARMORALL, PROTECTANT 303, OR FINISH 2001. ONCE THE PLASTICS ARE FADED DON'T THINK THERE'S MUCH YOU CAN DO. AS FOR THE ALUMINUM, I USE BLUE MAGIC. ITS A PASTE TYPE POLISH AND IT WORKS GREAT. I USE IT ON MY CAR RIMS, THEY ARE A DULL ALUMINUM, POLISHES THEM UP LIKE CHROME.

Race glaze makes a product called auto trim renue. It works great on plastic it really hides scrathes and adds a shine. It also works great on seats, they dont get as slippery as with armor all.Good luck it sounds like you have a cool ride.

Products like one touch tire cleaner work well. Just spray on and distibute evenly with a towel. It will get into place that you cant reach with a towel as well. It works good for repelling mud too. It makes the bike much easier clean after riding.
P.S. I'm also in the process of restoring an '85 350x. I have the suspension done and i'm currently tearing down the motor because it was smoking like there's no tomorrow. Anyone know of a good machine shop in the St. Louis area?

I just put some major work in to my 85 350X too. New Clutch, Fork Seal-Boots, Handlebars. I would definately recommend a plastic gas tank - they look great and add fuel capacity. For shining up plastic try Black Magic its made for tires but its works great on ATC plastic as well - good luck
